Jews for Israel?

Today, there are many organizations that support Israel, such as Catholics for Israel, Evangelicals for Israel, even ARABS for Israel (www.arabsforisrael.com.) When there are so many courageous non-Jews standing up for truth and the security of Israel, why are so few Jews doing the same? Why are the staunchest allies of Israel, non-Jews (not that there's anything wrong with non-Jews supporting Israel- I appreciate your gratitude). The answer is that world Jewry still lives with the ghetto mentality of the exile that a good Jew is a quiet Jew. That's why world Jewry was silent during the Holocaust. As a Canadian Jew, an essential read is 'None is Too Many' byt Irving Abella and Harold Troper. It completely documents, along with the anti-semitism of the Canadian government that kept the Jews out during the war years, the complete paralysis and silence of the Canadian Jewish Congress. It was a similar case in the United States. When we say 'Never Again' we do not mean, never another Holocaust. We mean that never again will world Jewry stay silent when Jews are in danger or are being persecuted.
What does the world think when it sees that 60 years after the rebirth of the Jewish homeland, half of the world's Jews continue to live in the exile? Obviously, goes the world opinion, the Land of Israel doesn't really belong to the Jews, or they would go live there. As a side note, this week's Torah portion, Shelach, contains the sin of the Spies, where the Israelites are condemned to wander in the desert 40 years because they rejected the Land by listening to the evil report of the spies. World Jewry, come home. Israel has been waiting for her children for over 2000 years.

Great post, great blog.

The non-Jew support for Jews is all about understanding the difference between good and evil, it's getting down to crunch time and we're (disciples of Judeo-Christian faiths) banding together.

What Israel needs is to compromise with her neighbors if Israel ever wants peace.

Peace looking up the barrel of a gun ain't no peace.

Who are the religious fundamentalists here? Those who say that God gave them Israel or those who say that God told them to blow up Israel?

If you are arguing from a religious viewpoint, to kill, take, or fight, YOU are a religious fundamentalist.
There is little differentiation between those who kill for Allah, God, or Jesus. It is still killing, and do you all forget one of the best lines from the Torah?

Commandment NUMBER 1: THOU SHALT NOT KILL.

Getting back to my earlier point- if Israel wants any peace, she'll have to compromise. And as much as your hate-addled brains will scream "compromise?! you can't compromise with those monsters!", hopefully you still have the empathy to imagine that the Muslims think the same way about the Jews.

It will only be solved through loving one's neighbor. And forget about "you can't fight the islamic terrorists with love", because you don't know that. It's never happened before.

An afternote:

"When we say 'Never Again' we do not mean, never another Holocaust. We mean that never again will world Jewry stay silent when Jews are in danger or are being persecuted."

That's absolutely totally wrong.

When we say 'Never Again', we mean never another genocide. Never again will hate be allowed to exist in the public square as it did in the past. Never will ANYONE stay silent when ANYONE is in danger or is being persecuted.

*******
Is that a serious question? Both are FUNDAMENTALISTS - the Land of Israel is a fundamental aspect of Judaism. However, if you can't tell the difference between blowing yourself up in a restaurant full of children and the elderly or settling and building a village in a piece of land that you believe belongs to you...

that does not seem to be the point at hand...

A palestinian and an israeli are walking towards each other on the same path. They take sight of each other, pick up guns and shoot each other. Who won?

Suicide bombing is a potential for individuals who are already suicidal, and have an excuse such as their religion for a reason to kill themselves.

very pointless. but nonetheless, it should be looked at as just a weapon and not an 'islamic' thing to do. If it is 'acceptable' to any order of humanity (japanese pilots ww2), they will use it as a possible weapon.

Therefore the argument comes back to two sets of people fighting over two sets of land where both desire fiercely to live on it.
Instead of trying to fight about it, settle it. There is room enough for both sides.

A possible plan is that Israel which is much richer could cultivate a successful area for their poor neighbors who have only experienced hate from their neighbor. (incidentally, those people were raised from a young age to hate their neighbor, but communication is key to change.)

Well said.

Bar Kochba, you are showing blindness.

"However, if you can't tell the difference between blowing yourself up in a restaurant full of children and the elderly or settling and building a village in a piece of land that you believe belongs to you..."

Don't forget that Israeli soldiers KILL and MAIM children and elderly too, including a fair share of middle aged men and women. I'm not saying that the Islamic fundies are any better than the Jew fundies. They are both in the wrong. I don't advocate the suicide bombers, just as i don't advocate the Israeli soldiers with guns and bombs and airplanes.

I advocate peace, through everyone laying down their weapons.
You advocate continuation of violence, through supporting that the Israeli state continues fighting. There will be no end to this war of attrition, because both sides are fighting for their homes.

dbvb-So, you advocate allowing the schoolyard bullies(i.e.jihadists)to escalate from taking your lunch money every day, to ripping the pages out of your books and shoving you into the mud, to raping and torturing you to death?
The Israelis DO NOT DO THIS, but the arabs living in occupied Israel do. Also, weren't pictures taken of the slaughter of 2 IDF soldiers who accidentally wandered into a mohammadin part of town, and the pictures showed the mohammadin "peacelovers" running through the streets with pieces of their intestines in their mouths?
When they come to do the same to you, please be elsewhere from me, I intend to fight...get a clue, your peace is built on weakness, you will die a coward, IF I die, I will not be!

During every war there are casualties. Israel has killed its share of civilians but, unlike the US and many other countries, Israel takes ridiculous measures to prevent the death of Palestinian civilians such as risking their own soldiers in going door-to-door in combat. The aim of the Islamic lunatics is to kill as many civilians as possible while Israel NEVER deliberately attacks civilians.

BTW, suicide bombings, or as they are known in the Islamic world shaheeh, martyrs, are a VERY Islamic thing.
From the Qur'an:

Sura (4:74) - "Let those fight in the way of Allah who sell the life of this world for the other. Whoso fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or be he victorious, on him We shall bestow a vast reward."

Sura (9:111) - "Allah hath purchased of the believers their persons and their goods; for theirs (in return) is the garden (of Paradise): they fight in His cause, and slay and are slain: a promise binding on Him in truth, through the Law, the Gospel, and the Qur'an: and who is more faithful to his covenant than Allah? then rejoice in the bargain which ye have concluded: that is the achievement supreme."

Sura (2:207) - "And there is the type of man who gives his life to earn the pleasure of Allah..."

Sura (61:10-12) "O ye who believe! Shall I lead you to a bargain that will save you from a grievous Penalty? That ye believe in Allah and His Messenger, and that ye strive (your utmost) in the Cause of Allah, with your property and your persons: That will be best for you, if ye but knew! He will forgive you your sins, and admit you to Gardens beneath which Rivers flow, and to beautiful mansions in Gardens of Eternity: that is indeed the Supreme Achievement."

The Hadith:

Muslim (20:4678) - During the battle of Badr, Muhammad was in desperate need for men to push into battle. He promised paradise for those who would martyr themselves, prompting a young man who was eating dates to throw them away and rush to his death.

Muslim (20:4681) - "Surely, the gates of Paradise are under the shadows of the swords." After hearing Muhammad say that martyrdom leads to paradise, a young man pulls his sword and breaks the sheath (indicating that he has no intention of returning) then flings himself into battle until he is killed.

Muslim (20.4635) - "Nobody who enters Paradise will (ever like to) return to this world even if he were offered everything on the surface of the earth (as an inducement) except the martyr who will desire to return to this world and be killed ten times for the sake of the great honour that has been bestowed upon him."

You folks are so deep within into your hatred of Muslims that empathy is not an option for you. It is that kind of thinking that perpetuates war.

It is because there are people like you on both sides of the struggle that war continues.

When you lay down your guns and your hate, and those of your type do so on the other side, there will be peace. Unfortunately, there is a very small chance of such a thing happening.

When the mullahs and imams reject the Mecca parts of the koran, and call mohammad a pedophilic, murdering thief, then I will say I will remove the rifle from my shoulder. Until then, I won't hold my breathe.
And before you whine about Scripture, it doesn't call for wholesale slaughter of a people, EXCEPT for some VERY SPECIFIC cases!
Why don't you go whine to the schoolyard bully, see how long you keep your lunch money.
Oh, btw, have you ever heard of tough love?
Good morning, G*D bless and Maranatha!

Read that again, as many times as it takes until you understand that violence breeds violence.
To the Muslims, the Israelis are the schoolyard bullies.
To the Israelis, the Muslims are the schoolyard bullies.

Both sides, instead of taking it up with each other's schoolyard bullies, bomb each other's mother's houses.
