Never Again?

Having posted my experiences in Poland, before I post about Israel, I feel that it is important to draw some lessons from the horrors of the Holocaust. Clearly, the Holocaust was the worst crime ever perpetrated by humanity. It is our duty to ensure that it never occurs again, either to the Jewish people or to any other nation. Did we learn anything? Is the world any different? Is there hope?

As Hitler intensified his persecutions of the Jews, culminating in the pogrom of Kristallnacht in 1939, the world decided to close its doors to those who needed asylum the most. During the war, when Allied intelligence reported the extermination of European Jews, the world still chose to keep silent. Allied airplanes even bombed a factory attached to the Auschwitz-Birkenau complex yet didn't feel that bombing the gas chambers or crematorium was an important goal. There was a conspiracy of silence against the Jews: half of the world tried to wipe us out, while the other half prefered to sit silently and watch. Only once the war was over did world leaders open their eyes to their complicity and began to realize how they could have prevented such a tragedy. If only we had known before! If only we saw! Never Again, they cried as they cried crocodile tears for the murdered Jews. They beat their chests in anguish and pledged never again would they be apathetic in the face of hatred and genocide. Unfortunately, 63 years since the end of the Holocaust, their words ring hollow.

Since 2003, Arab janjaweed militia backed by the Sudanese government have been systimatically murdered, raping, torturing and killing black Darfuris. They have massacred entire villages and destroyed food and water sources to exacerbate the drought and famine. About 400 000 thousand lives have already been lost. While some may claim (erroneously) that the Holocaust was hidden from public knowledge, no such thing can be said about Darfur. The horrors of ethnic cleansing, massacres and rape have happened in full view of the international community. Endless parades of diplomats, world leaders and officials have visited Khartoum with sporadic, unclear and incoherent messages. Diplomacy has failed the people of Darfur as thousands are slaughtered each day. We are our brother's keeper. It is not enough to build museums and monuments after the genocide, but to stop it or prevent it from happening in the first place.

Neither has the world learnt the dangerous and deadly results of unchecked anti-semitism. In recent weeks, violent attacks against Jews have taken place in Los Angeles, New York and London. In LA, a 58-year old man wearing a kippah was attacked by two men who called him a "dirty Jew" before punching him and beating him down. The police report a steep rise in anti-semitic attacks, including vandalism and a improvised bomb at a Jewish community center. In Germany, an Arab man was sentenced to three years in jail (only?!) for stabbing a rabbi repeatedly. Walls, shops and sidewalks outside four synagogues in northeast London Clapton Common and Stamford Hill neighborhoods were desecrated with anti-Jewish graffiti last week. The slogans called for 'Jihad to Israel' and 'Jihad to Tel-Aviv'. A 16-year old Jewish boy was severely beaten and mugged last week. A Jewish man living in Ireland last week had his home defaced with Nazi symbols and swastikas, with the slogan "Go Home, Jew". In fact, anti-semitic incidents are up almost 400% worldwide in recent years. It is actually the most worrisome increase in attacks since the Second World War. Violent attacks and desecrations of synagogues and cemetaries is commonplace in much of Europe. Jewish communities, such as those of Paris and London, feel as if under siege and live in constant danger. In Western Europe, fanatical imams incite their flocks against the Jews and the Zionists, the source of all of their problems. In the East, where the Muslim population is insignificant, neo-Nazi groups are undergoing a revival. During the first year of the commemoration of Berlin's Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, it was defaced with swastikas five times.

This anti-semitism is not only the workings of hateful individuals or fringe groups. For the first time since Hitler, there is a world leader publically calling for the destruction of the Jewish people. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has announced his intentions to "wipe Israel off the map" and called the Holocaust "a myth", even holding a conference to spread his poisonous denial. Ahmadinejad threatened, on Yom HaAztmaut, that Israel will soon be destroyed. "The Zionist regime is dying," said Ahmadinejad during a speech in northern Iran. "The criminals assume that by holding celebrations ... they can save the sinister Zionist regime from death and annihilation... Nations of the region hate this criminal fabricated regime [Israel] and will uproot this fabricated regime if the smallest and shortest opportunity is given to them." His terminology is very reminiscent of Nazi speech as he dehumanizes Jews and demonizes Israel, calling it a "cancer" and insisting on its demise. These are not the mere rantings of a lunatic. Ahmadinejad is rapidly advancing his country's nuclear arms program which he will certainly use as a weapon to bring about his hoped-for destruction of Israel. Iran is responsible for arming Hizbullah and supporting them during their war with Israel, two summers ago. Hizbullah's leader, Nasrallah, an Iranian pawn, made very clear his genocidal intent when he said that "the Jews should all gather in Israel to save us [Hizbualllah] the trouble of going after them worldwide." Just as people prefered to do nothing as the Jews chocked to death in the gas chambers or burnt in the ovens, thinking that Hitler was "just a Jewish problem", the world does not condemn Ahmadinejad for his incitement to genocide. Quite the contrary- he was even invited to spead before the UN, granting him worldwide legitimacy.

Once Iran bombs Israel, G-d forbid, the world will be quite to realize its fault. Leaders will beat their chest in sorrow and cry bitter crocodile tears at their willful blindness. Surely, monuments will be built to commemorate the now-extinct Jews. International money will pour in to build museums to memorialize the tragedy and people will use this blood money to atone for their collective guilt. No! This is not enough! Now that there is still a chance, Ahmadinejad must be brought to justice for inciting hatred against the nation of Israel. We do not want another Yad VaShem or a Holocaust memorial day. What we want is for the world to wake up and to make good on its promise of never again. As Jews, we must know that the world will never realize until its too late and that we cannot go once more like sheep to the slaughter.

NEVER AGAIN!

Mercy for the Cruel

War is approaching. Israel is at a crucial stage. Iran's dictator, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, may his name be accursed, has promises a devastating 'final response' to Israel and the US on October 12th, 'al-Quds' Day.
From Arutz-7:

Supporters of the Zionist regime will receive their response during the world Quds Day's rallies,” Iranian government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham said at a weekly press conference Wednesday.

According to the state-controlled Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Elham was describing Iran's planned response for US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's visit “to the occupied Palestine [sic].”

"The US loses all opportunities to cooperate with regional and other world states by trying to support a regime (the Zionist regime) which is now at its weakest political and social position," Elham said. "Supporters of the Zionist regime will definitely receive the final response for their support on Quds day."

Quds Day is held each year on the last Friday of the Islamic month of Ramadan. It was instituted in 1979, following the Islamic revolution by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini.

“I ask all the Muslims of the world and the Muslim governments to join together to sever the hand of this usurper and its supporters,” Khomeini said when proposing the day. “I call on all the Muslims of the world to select as Quds Day the last Friday in the holy month of Ramadan - which is itself a determining period and can also be the determiner of the Palestinian people’s fate - and through a ceremony demonstrating the solidarity of Muslims world-wide, announce their support for the legitimate rights of the Muslim people. I ask G-d Almighty for the victory of the Muslims over the infidels.”

On Quds Day in 2000, Khomeini’s successor Khamenei called for Israel’s destruction, saying it is “the only way to solve the problems of the Middle East.”

Open Threats of War
One of Khamenei’s top advisers, Major General Yahya Rahim-Safavi, declared Tuesday that Iran would strike “in shortest possible time” in case of any strike on its nuclear facilities. He referred specifically to the army of suicide-bombers and child-soldiers active during the Iran-Iraq war. "The enemy will face strong armed forces especially the Basij [suicide-bombers and child soldiers] if it unleashed a military attack on Iran," he said. He claimed that the Basij army has 20 million members.

According to IRNA, “He said that the US has been entangled in a quagmire in Iraq and cannot easily survive.”

Khomeini proposed 'al-Quds' Day as a way of unifing the Muslims people and beseeching Allah for help. The only way for us to overcome Muslim unity is for us to join together as Jews, unify, and storm the gates of Heaven with our prayers. It is right before Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, and we have the power to change our destiny on that day. Whatever evil decrees the Hashem has written, chas ve'shalom for His people can be averted by simply returning to Him. Every harsh prophecy recorded in the books of the Prophets such as the War of Gog and Magog and the Chavlei HaMoshiach can be nullified with teshuvah and prayer. The Rabbis tell us that every Jew is responsible, areivim, for one another. The only way to defeat the aravim, Arabs, is for us to be areivim and to care and love one another. Reach out to your fellow Jew and bring him back to the Torah.
This war has already started. After all of the Qassams, attacks on Sderot, children hiding in bomb shelters and terrorist attacks, PM Olmert has finally declared Gaza to be 'an enemy entity'. Really! The Defense Minister presented information to his ministerial colleagues, showing that terrorists in Hamas-controlled Gaza have fired 700 Kassam rockets towards Sderot, the Negev and Ashkelon since the beginning of the year. He said that Arabs in Gaza have fired a total of some 4,000 since the year 2001, causing 14 deaths.

The Defense Minister feels there will ultimately be no choice other than to attack the terror infrastructures in Gaza, and "it appears that every passing day brings a broad military operation closer."

According to the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian affairs, all of Gaza's fuel, diesel, gasoline and natural gas come from Israel, which powers Gaza's power plant which produces 28.6% of Gaza electricity. How blind are Israel's leaders? Cut off Gaza's electricity, water, TV, radio and all supply sources until they give in. Israel's former Sephardic Chief Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu already ruled that the proper Halakhic response to the Qassams is to carpet bomb Gaza. Rabbi Eliyahu shli"ta cited the biblical story of the Shechem massacre (Genesis 34) and Maimonides' commentary (Laws of Kings 9, 14) on the story as proof texts for his legal decision. According to Jewish war ethics, wrote Eliyahu, an entire city holds collective responsibility for the immoral behavior of its leaders. If the people of Gaza opposed the rockets, they would not have elected Hamas. In Gaza, the entire populace is responsible because they do nothing to stop the firing of Kassam rockets. The former chief rabbi also said it was forbidden to risk the lives of Jews in Sderot or the lives of IDF soldiers for fear of injuring or killing Palestinian noncombatants living in Gaza. He quoted Psalm 18:38"I will pursue my enemies and apprehend them and I will not desist until I have eradicated them."
If the IDF does go in to Gaza, it will probably stay there for a few months, disrupt the terrorist organizations and then leave. This is repeated every time Israel enters a hostile area. It happened during Operation Defensive Shield in 2002, Gaza in 2007 and the 1982 Lebanon War. Ultimately, there is no solution besides the annexation of Gaza, Judea and Samaria, the expulsion of the Arabs and Jewish settlements there. No country can tolerate such a hostile enemy squatting on territories that legitimately belong to it.
Every military strategist in the world knows that the easiest way to win a war is to conquer territories. Israel's generals, despite being some of the brightest, most highly decorated and advanced in the world, were raised on the idea of victory while retreating. That is why Israel failed so miserably in Lebanon last summer- Ehud Barak retreated from Lebanon, Sharon retreated from Gaza, Olmert wants to retreat from Judea and Samaria. Israel must be prepared to annex any territories that it conquers, to expel its population and to settle Jews on that land.

"One who becomes compassionate to the cruel will ultimately become cruel to the compassionate" (Tanhuma, Parashat Mezora,1; Yalkut Shimoni, I Samuel, Chapter 121)

Showdown Imminent

By Dudi Cohen for Ynet News:

The countdown to Israel's destruction has begun, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a speech commemorating the death of Iranian revolution leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini on Sunday.
"The arrogant superpowers and the Zionist regime invested all their efforts during the 33-day war, but after 60 years, their pride has been trampled and the countdown to the destruction of this regime has been started by Hizbullah fighters," the president was quoted as saying by Iranian news agency Mehr.

Ahmadinejad added that "with the help of all the Lebanese and Palestinian fighters, we will witness the destruction of this regime in the near future… Anyone who works for God and believes in the power of the people will prevail."...
He pointed out the Palestinians as an example of a people who draw encouragement from the ways of the Iranian people. "The Palestinian people have begun their movement out of oppression and the world's nations and the Zionist regime will be forced to bow down to the Palestinians and officially acknowledge this people."

Not commenting on the nuclear problem directly, the president hinted that "Khomeini believed that when a nation reaches a point where it makes a decision, no power can tackle it and this is the road Iran is taking."
Ahmadinejaed ended his speech by urging the nations of the world to believe in God, saying, "The final victory, the power of the people, and the destruction of tryants is near."
*********
What is Israel waiting for, as a madman openly incites war against it? How empty our promises of 'Never Again'. 'Never Again' does not mean never another Holocaust; it mean that the Jews of the world will stand idly by while they are being threatened. Israel must show the world its power, beginning with clearing away the terrorist scum from Gaza, Judea and Samaria. It must show the world its might. "The degradation of Israel is the desecration of the name of Hashem" (Rashi, Ezekiel 39:7. The fact that Israel allows itself to look weak is a desecration of G-d's name. Our enemies laugh at us and mock us. It's time to show the world our strength, our Jewish pride, our resolve.

Thug-in-Chief's Military Official to US: Don't Attack

A senior Iranian Military official had just warned the US against starting a war against Iran. “If America starts a war against Iran, it won’t be the one who finishes it,” Morteza Saffari, naval forces commander of the elite Revolutionary Guards, was quoted as saying by the ISNA news agency. He had also said that Iran will not let even one American soldier enter the country.
Fine then. We can defeat Iran without any soldiers. Why doen't the US declare solidarity with the rebellious minorities of Iran such as the Kurds, Baluchis or Azeris? The US should hijack government radio and broadcasts and encourage the people to revolt. The US needs to win the war of ideas and information. Drop leaflets on major Iranian cities detailing the many "gifts" that the government has brought them such as unemployment, a slowing economy, near-war... Demoralize the people by letting them know which cities will be completely wiped off the map by American bombs if a war breaks out. Let them know exactly the consequences of a war and how it can be averted, namely by rejecting this government and rejecting Islam. Tell them that Ahmadinejad and all his Mullahs are not real Iranians. As a head Ayatollah once said, he could not care less if all of Iran was destroyed for the sake of Islam. Real patriotic, eh? Let them know that we are prepared to make peace but ready and willing to make war.

The Coming Storm

'For Zion's sake I will not be silent, for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest' President Ahmadinejad of Iran has announced that Israel must be 'wiped of of the map' He has called the Jews 'the embodiment of evil' and to make matters worse, he is building nuclear weapons. He has already funded Hizbullah and through them started a war with Israel. What is Israel waiting for? It's 1939 all over again and the world is still hesistating.
