An "Israeli" Arab sheikh was indicted for incitement to violence and racism, this Tuesday, for a hate-filled speech that he gave last year, resulting in deadly riots.

The February 16, 2007 speech accused Israel of murdering Arabs, with assertions that IDF officers’ ranks are made from the skulls of dead Arab “martyrs” and even asserting that medieval European blood libels were true. Salah boasted that Muslims do not mix blood with their post-Ramadan bread and advised his followers to research how the Jews used the blood of gentile children to make matzah for Passover, one of the oldest anti-Semitic canards which has led to the death of many Jews in blood libels.

The crowd at the protest cheered its approval of Salah’s claims, declaring that they would fight and die for the Temple Mount. Almost immediately after the speech, a riot broke out, with Arabs hurling rocks at Israeli police officers, wounding at least three.

Since our enemy has once again asserted his medieval mentality (they do follow a 7th century bandit pedophile, after all), can we deal with them like in the good old days? I'm thinking somewhere along the lines of Shimshon and the Philistines...

All's fair in war, the west seriously has to re-assess rules of engagement.

When you going on your trip to Israel?

We leave the night that Passover ends. After Havdallah, we're off. But in the meantime, I've already had a pre-trip shabbaton up north, a few prep sessions and there a few more left.

Shimshi: are you making Aliya? If so I can't describe how happy I am for you, my brother!

As for the post, I still consider those with that kind of mentality to be in the minority. Supporting Hamas is one thing (only if because Hamas is so resourceful in aiding sick and needy Palestinians, getting there before the Israelis, hence winning them over); accusing Jews of the blood libel is something different. Hopefully we don't need to resort to Shimshon-like tactics and if we do it won't happen anyway so...

Oh, for those who don't know, I'm going on the March of the Living, a program for highschool students, young adults and adults, in which we spend a week in Poland for Yom HaShoah, visitng all the sites of pre-War Jewish life and the death camps, culminating in a March from Auschwtiz to Birkenau on Yom HaShoah. From there, we spend a week in Israel touring the country. We spend Yom HaAtzmaut in Jerusalem, with a march to the Kotel! I can't wait!

Shimshi: I've heard all about the March of the Living. A younger friend of mine in Israel went on it a couple of years ago. You should get to enjoy the opportunity to visit Israel for Yom Ha'atzmaut. I wish you a wonderful trip! Sa beshalom ve'tachzor be'shalom!
